It is important to normalize adoption for our kids and one of the best ways to achieve this is by fostering friendships with other children who have been adopted. To help build this rapport, Adoptive Families of Houston hosts a number of social events throughout the year.  These are all wonderful opportunities for parents and children to get to know one another and share their common bond.

Here are some examples of activities hosted by Adoptive Families of Houston:

• Play Groups:  Activities have ranged from backyard barbecues to an outing to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.  In the past we fed giraffes at the Houston Zoo, attended an Astros game, decorated Valentine cookies, and had a make-your-own taco party, among other activities.

• Annual Picnic:  A Celebration of Adoption picnic is hosted each fall. This event has lots of games, crafts, food and fun for the whole family.

• Book Club: Book discussions take place quarterly at a member’s home on books related to adoption, parenting, or child development.
